Yeon Choi

Biography
Professor Yeon Choi is a visual artist and animator whose practice spans painting, digital media, and animation. She holds an MFA in Computer Arts from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, as well as an MA and BFA in Painting from Ewha University in Seoul, South Korea.
Since 1998, Choi has been a faculty member at the ÌìÃÀÊÓÆµ at Lafayette, where she is currently Professor in the School of Visual Arts. Her teaching and creative research explore themes of war, memory, identity, and violence through both traditional and digital media.
She has received numerous grants and awards, including two ArtSpark Individual Artist Grants (2024, 2017) and a Louisiana Artist Fellowship from the Division of the Arts (2003). Her films have earned international recognition, receiving Best Animation Awards from the Toronto Women Film Festival (2023), the Chicago Women Film Fest (2024), the Berlin Women Cinema Festival (2024), the Rome Perspective International Film Festival (2025), among others.
Choi’s filmography includes Confessions (1997), Media, Metaphor, Non-locality (2001), Objects of My Obsessions (2002), The Labyrinth (2002), The Fly (2003), Sandstorm (2003), The Thief (2004), The Destroyed Room (2005), Ever After (2006), Learning to Play How High the Moon (2006), After Swann (2012), A Bride’s Diary (2023), and Memories of the Little Pond (2024).
